Metrics and Analytics: lj 2.

Chapter 6 of the Textbook spoke about the collecting of user data through social media. The chapter briefs on how one small post has dozens of meta-data attached to it, which is seen s valuable information. "For example, a single tweet on Twitter has dozens of chunks of meta-data, such as location, date, and time. Location data are particularly important ( Lipschultz, 2020 ) ." As we have talked about previously, this data is seen as unimportant to the average user, but companies are using it to their advantage to create specific algorithms. The chapter goes into Google analytics and how web traffic is monitored through user interfaces. Keywords in user searches are used to identify correct information to present to users and help maintain a positive web traffic space.  I don't see this information altering my use of social media. I think I enjoy it too much for it to really affect the way I view social media. Which truly sounds like a bad thing. I do see myself lessening...

Assignment 3

For my Time Diary, I chose Tiktok as my favorite social media tool. Sunday February 19th: 1hr 20m Monday February 20th: 1hr 12m Tuesday February 21st: 3hr 42m Wednesday February 22nd: 4hr 11m On Sunday and Monday I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, so I was not on my phone much. My use time went up for the rest of the week as I usually scroll through tiktok while at work. On Tuesday, I worked from 8am-8pm. I have frequent periods of downtime where I'll just scroll on tiktok. On Wednesday, I did not go to class, so I believe that is why my usage time is so high. While using the tool, I am usually just scrolling and watching content. I sometimes post content also. I send videos to my friends every-time I use the tool because of all the relatable content I come across. I comment on videos I find funny and also use it as a search engine. Its much easier to find precise answers on tiktok.  I believe that the point of the semester does affect my usage. With midterms coming up, I a...

Media and social networking is the sharing of information to connect with people around the world or even within a local community. Social networking usually works to allow people to communicate their thoughts with others that may share the same interests or even oppose. Through media, individuals are able to express themselves to large audiences or even small ones. Apps like Twitter allow consumers to express their thoughts on certain subjects and have open debates. Other social networking sites such as instagram of tiktok, focus more on media in the form of videos and/or pictures.  I currently use all 3 apps that I mentioned above for the purpose of sharing things that I may find interesting or funny. I might post funny memes on my instagram story, repost entertaining videos on my tiktok, or speak on my random daily thoughts on twitter. I also use Linkedin for the sole purpose of networking to find career opportunities. I try to make the most out of linkedin by posting my resume ...

Customized Internet: LJ3

Though a bit confusing, the reading from this week provided great insight on how popularity and privacy has been viewed throughout the years, while also connecting it to how easily accessible consumer information is. Back then it might've been great to be a celebrity since there was a lack of social media. Also there were slower productions times. For example, if an important figured happened to pass away on before social media, the news would take quite a bit of time to spread. News papers and magazines would be working overtime to get prints out by the next day. In the current day, if a celebrity were to pass away at 9:02 p.m. the mass would be informed of this information by 9:01 p.m. I wish that was a joke but TMZ has reported deaths to social media before families were even informed about the news.  The article introduction speaks on how data is being unknowingly collected and utilized to create algorithms tailored to our "needs." We no longer ha...

The Unspoken Rules of Social Media: LJ1

As social media continues to grow, we are able to see the distinct changes in the content we posted 6 years ago, to content posted today. Anyone interested in getting their content to large audiences or already posting to large audiences, most likely has a set routine or even rules they follow to keep their posting consistent. While everyone has their own methods to their madness, I can confidently say that there are rules of social media that the majority follow. In this blog post, I will give you dos and don'ts of the internet. (Please keep in mind that I'm writing about social media "rules," this post is to be taken very lightly. I whole-heartedly do not care if you "break" any of these rules.) I think it would be most efficient to write about a specific app, so I will be speaking about my most commonly used social media app. Which would be: Instagram. I look at instagram as a highlight reel of your life. It is an app that allows you to be the biggest sh...

Welcome To My Blog

Hello everyone my name is Choumika Celestin and I'm from Southwest Florida. Currently I reside in Tampa and am a Health Science major. I'd like to think that I am a spontaneous person. Especially considering that I went skydiving for my friends birthday, because she said thats the only way she wanted to celebrate her 20th. I love taking on new hobbies. Last week I bought a camera on a whim because the seller was selling it for a very low price, so I guess I'm now picking up photography as my new hobby (just until I get bored of course). I am also taking up cooking. I think that I really need to expand on my cooking skills because rice and chicken is not cutting it anymore.  I have been working since my sophomore year of high school. I worked at Publix for almost 3 years, then worked at H&M for 2 years. During college I've worked at 3 doctor's office's and currently work at an urgent care doing receptionist work.  My favorite social media platform would be ti...
